Days of Operation,
Holidays and Closings
Our program is available before and after school during the days school is in session. In addition, care will be available on early release days.
When the school is originally scheduled to be open, but is unexpectedly closed for the day, so is KAS.
If your child was scheduled to attend KAS on a day that school was originally scheduled to be open, and is unexpectedly closed, payment for that day is required.
Our program will be closed on in-service and other “no school” days, including Christmas and Easter break. Our program will also be closed on the following Holidays. We do not require payment for prescheduled days off designated by the school prior to the start of the school year, with the exception of the following listed holidays:
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Memorial Day
- Day after Thanksgiving
- Good Friday
If your child is scheduled to attend the program on the above listed holidays you will be charged regular tuition.
Early Release: The charge for this day is an additional charge, above your contracted rate. Pre-registration is required for early release days. The parents are solely responsible for sign up; the staff will not sign up your child or ask you if your child is going to attend. Registration ends 5 school days before the early release date. If you find you have a need for early release after the sign up deadline, you may ask the KAS Director if there is still room for your child, if there is still room, you will be required to pay an additional $10 late fee per child for late Early Release sign up. There will be NO sign up, including late sign up, within 2 school days of the Early Release date. If your child shows up for the Early Release day and was not pre-registered, you will be charged an additional $20.00 for this service or rejected if space and/or supplies are unavailable. If there is no space available, you will be called and immediate pick up of your child will be necessary. If you fail to have your child picked up immediately, there will be a late pick up charge of $25.00.
Child Guidance
A guidance policy has been established to ensure and protect the rights and well being of all children entrusted in our care. With the establishment of these policies, we can guarantee all the children shall be dealt with in a fair and appropriate manner when guidance is necessary.
Teachers are to encourage each child to grow and develop as a social being and to achieve a secure environment in which the child and staff can interact. Through consistent, positive guidance by the teachers, and through learning clear-cut limits that are appropriate to the child’s ability to understand, each child is encouraged to respect him/herself as well as others.
The staff will strive to enforce consistent Center rules so that the children will know what is expected. In all interactions with the children the staff will show care and respect for each child. The staff will let all children know that they care about each one, but will not allow behavior which causes damage to self, another person, or property.
Families should inform staff of changes in their child’s life that may affect their mood or behavior. This enables the staff to be sensitive to their child’s needs.
We encourage daily communications with all parents if possible. Positive and negative behaviors are discussed and ideas are shared. We encourage consistency at home and school surroundings.
We will use these guidelines to implement our policy:
- Children will be involved in establishing classroom rules and limitations. Frequent reviews of these rules will assist the child in abiding by program rules accepting responsibility for their actions. Children will be made aware of possible consequences if rules are broken.
- We will encourage children to problem solve by communicating to express their feelings and desires, rather than physical force or inappropriate language. This will help children to develop self-control, self esteem and respect for others.
- We encourage children to be assertive rather than aggressive. When the child becomes aggressive, the teacher will redirect to another program activity or area.
- Communication between teacher and child will be in a positive statement form. All discipline shall be handled in a calm, sensible manner.
- A time out can be used for a child to calm down and rethink his negative behavior or action. It shall be no longer than 5 minutes and will take place in the same room as the other children. The teacher that implemented the time out will explain to the child why his/her behavior was unacceptable.
- Repeated negative or aggressive behavior, unable to follow classroom rules, swearing, verbal abuse, name calling, disrespect (towards teachers, students, property) and negative attitude that is detrimental to others, will receive an Incident Report which will be kept on file and parents will receive a copy of it. A parent conference will be requested by the teacher, at any time, or if numerous Incident Reports are written or we see no improvement in the child’s behavior. At this point we have the option to proceed with a yellow slip as described below.
Our program will not tolerate any of the following behaviors directed towards a teacher, or fellow student. Your child will receive a yellow discipline slip immediately for the following actions:
- Fighting
- Violence
- Causing Harm to Others (Physical or Mental)
- Uncontrollable Behavior
1 Yellow Slip = 1 week suspension from our program
Steps following a Yellow Slip:
- Parent will be called immediately and must remove the child from the facility
- Child will not be allowed to return for 1 week
Steps Following Suspension:
- Child may return to program after 1 week
- If the child receives 1 more Yellow Slip (for any reason) the child will be expelled permanently from the program
In accordance with “Wisconsin Rules for Licensing”, punishment that is humiliating or frightening to a child, hitting, spanking, shaking, verbal or sexual abuse, withholding or forcing food, or punishment for lapses in toilet training and other forms of physical punishment are prohibited. These punishments will never be used, even at the parent’s request.
By law the legal duty of a childcare employee is to report known or suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.
Fees and Payments
Child Care fees will be prepaid on Friday for the upcoming week. You will be charged for the number of days your child is contracted to attend. Varied days are allowed with a prior schedule per our requirements found in Varied Schedule section below. Failure to pay your child care fees may result in suspension of care until your account is brought up-to-date.
Payment of Child Care fees is not the responsibility of the children. Payments need to be turned in by an adult. If Homestead Day Care, LLC does not receive payment because it was given to your child and your child fails to turn in the payment, late fees and suspensions are still applicable.
Drop-in Child Care fees will be collected the morning your child attends. Drop-in care can be scheduled in advance, if space is available. If we do not have space, we will be unable to accept your drop-in care request. We provide a Schedule Request Form printed on red paper. This form is to be used when turning in your Drop In schedule for those who know in advance. First come first served. After a day is scheduled, you will be charged whether your child is in attendance or not. It is solely the parents’ responsibility to use the Red Schedule Form and insure it’s turned into a staff member. If you have not informed the staff that your child will be at either an AM or PM KAS session and your child shows up, you will be called. If there is no space for your child, you will be required to pick them up immediately. Failure to have your child picked up immediately will result in a $25.00 late pick up fee.
Drop-In Child Care Fees on Account: Homestead Day Care, LLC may request at any time during the school year, a lump sum payment be made in advance and held on account. Please see “Deposit” on next page.
Varied Schedules: A varied schedule is one that changes each week due to the employment requirements of the parent/guardian. A varied schedule is NOT a schedule that MAY change from time to time over the course of the school year. The days the child (ren) attends will be different from week to week on a regular basis.
A minimum of 1 varied day is allowed with a prior weekly schedule. Varied schedules need to be received by 8am each Tuesday morning of the prior week. Failure to provide this schedule will result in your child being placed on the schedule for full time hours for the AM and PM shift and payment for this full time care will be necessary. In addition to payment for full time care, you will need to provide an actual schedule by 8am the Friday before care is provided. Failure to provide this schedule by 8am will result in an additional $25 fee per child. We provide a Schedule Request Form printed on red paper. This form is to be used when turning in your varied schedule. It is important to use this form as this form is what the Director uses to schedule enough staff.
It is our policy that days may be added to a child’s schedule, however, we DO NOT allow “switching” or “instead ofs”.
Registration fee is collected at time of registration and is non-refundable.
Returned Check fee will be charged for insufficient funds. A service fee of $20.00 will be added to the weekly childcare fee.
Late Payment Fee: If payment in full for the childcare fee is not received on Friday, there is a $10.00 late payment fee. Failure to pay the child care fee in full for a second consecutive week and beyond will result in a $20.00 late payment fee and it may become necessary to suspend child care services until your account is brought up-to-date. Late fees apply to partial payments that do not result in your account paid in full.
Late Pick-up: A late fee will be applied if your child is picked up after the scheduled pick up time on the Parent Contract. You will be charged $10.00 for each 15 minutes that you are late.
If your child is not picked up by 6:00 p.m. and we have not received a phone call, we will begin calling parents at work and home and /or authorized pick up persons. If we are unable to contact any family member or pick up person after reasonable efforts have been made, Protective Services will be called.
Early Drop Off: A fee of $10.00 will be charged for dropping off your child early. Staffing is based on your contracted hours, dropping children off early may result in violation of State License rules for staffing. Absolutely no children will be allowed to enter the building before 6:45 a.m.
Deposit: Homestead Day Care, LLC reserves the right to request a deposit to be held on account. Any deposit held on account must maintain at all times a balance equal to one weeks contracted charges or estimated charges determined by Homestead Day Care I, LLCf you fall under the category of Drop-In. If this balance falls below one week’s charges, this deposit must be brought up to date before the next Friday. Failure to maintain this deposit balance at all times and failure to repay this deposit balance by the next Friday will result in child care services suspended until payment in full is received. This deposit request can be made at the time of registration or at any point during the school year, for any reason. Once this deposit has been requested, payment for this deposit is due within 2 weeks of the request. If this deposit payment is not made within 2 weeks of the request, child care services will be suspended until this payment is made. Any deposit left on account at the end of the school year may be used as payment for the last weeks care. If after all fees have been paid in full, and you have a credit in your deposit account at the end of the school year, you will be given the option of a refund or keeping this deposit account for the next school year.
Account Questions: The Director and Teachers responsibilities at KAS are taking care of the children; they do not handle account inquiries. They have no knowledge of each individual account. They have no authorization to tell any parent what they have to pay other than to reference the chart of fees and to recite the fee schedule. They have no authorization to make decisions regarding your account. Any such information or authorization will only be honored if it comes from the Homestead Day Care office.
